Weave Types Explained

The weave determines how the fabric feels and behaves — two sheets with identical thread count can feel completely different depending on weave.

Thread Count: The Honest Guide

Thread count (TC) is threads per square inch. Higher is not always better — especially in Indian weather.

Common Questions

Which fabric is best for bedsheets in India?

100% cotton in percale or sateen weave is the best choice for Indian homes. Cotton breathes well in heat and humidity, gets softer with washing, and lasts 3–5 years with basic care. Percale is cooler for summer; sateen is softer for cooler months or AC rooms.

Is microfiber good for bedsheets?

No. Microfiber is a synthetic fabric that traps heat and moisture — the opposite of what you need in Indian summers. It also pills quickly and holds odour. Use microfiber for cleaning cloths and travel; use cotton or bamboo-cotton for bedsheets and towels.

What is the difference between percale and sateen?

Both are cotton weaves. Percale has a one-over-one-under structure — it feels crisp and cool, like a fresh shirt. Sateen has a four-over-one structure — it feels smooth and has a slight sheen. Percale is better for summer and hot sleepers; sateen is better for cooler weather or if you prefer a softer, more luxurious feel.

Are bamboo towels better than cotton towels?

Bamboo-cotton blends (typically 70% bamboo, 30% cotton) are softer than plain cotton, dry faster, and are naturally antibacterial — which matters for towels used daily. The main rule: never use fabric softener on bamboo towels, as it coats the fibres and reduces absorbency.

What thread count should I look for in a bedsheet?

For Indian homes, 250–300 TC in 100% cotton is the sweet spot. It is soft, breathable, and durable. Thread counts above 400 are often achieved by twisting multiple thin threads together — the number goes up but the feel does not necessarily improve and the sheet may trap more heat.
